Astro - Lunar Fishing forecast

Fishing ain't luck - well, OK, sometimes it is. This weekend's lunar period shows good fishing and sometimes we need all the help we can get! My brother-in-law and I are heading out this evening in search of muskies on an unfamiliar lake, so we aren't getting our hopes too high. We are going to be throwing a few bucktails, probably this Bagley Top Gun and since, I am a firm believer in dressed trebles (at least for my bass lures) I tied up a nice teaser tail on the 3/0 treble on the back of my Yo-Zuri Magnum. I'm sure we will switch over to walleyes before too long. Here's to good fishing and have a great weekend.

Who says you need expensive gear to get a record fish? A North Carolina man catches a state record channel cat with his granddaughter's Barbie fishing pole. Check out the video.

I caught one!

My 5 year old with his catch. He always is so surprised to catch a fish - even though he catches quite a few. He routinely likes to brag how he caught 9 fish and I caught 2. I didn't have time to fish - had to keep taking his fish off. Now, my 3 year old daughter loves to fish. She will hold them and tell them goodbye, before dropping them back in the lake. I'll try to get a photo of her and her fish next time.
If you haven't yet signed up at Take Me Fishing and the Angler's Pledge please do so to support youth fishing programs. And hey, it is a cheap, fun, get outdoors, afternoon activity.
Here is my whopper. I asked if he got the fish in the photo and he said, "Yes." Guess he needs a few photo pointers as well.

Springbrook Lake State Park fishing report
Headed up to Springbrook State Park this morning. It is only about 7 miles away, so it is an easy getaway.
Now that school is back in session, many area schools come to Springbrook for field trips. Springbrook has an excellent education center, activities, great trails and a secret stash of kayaks for the kids to take out on the lake (I'm not quite sure why they don't rent them out to campers). Now, since it is a tiny lake, only 15 acres, having 20 or so kids learning to use kayaks can get crowded – fast! Today there happened to be a very large class, split into three groups of about 20 or so. Kayaking, fishing and hiking. The fishing group made a beeline to the jetty I was fishing on, but I managed to cast two times and hook a nice 8 to 9 inch crappie. Since there were a lot of kids and plenty of grown-ups to help out, I surrendered my spot and moved to the good hole. The one that holds +6 lb largemouth bass. Even with all the kids fishing and kayaks coming 5 feet from where I was along with half of them playing bumper boats, the fishing was good. Not quite as peaceful as I hoped, but 5 bass and 1 crappie in an hour ain't bad. And all were caught using a Yo-Zuri Jerk-O in tasty Lemon Shad, which I absolutely love. Perfect shallow water bait.

Fishing Shirts

We signed up at CafePress and made a few fishing tackle t-shirts. Fun to setup and hey check out our model! Prices are pretty much stock prices from CafePress - which seem a bit high. Anyone know of other t-shirt sites like CafePress? Maybe something with a large variety of colors.

Footballers love Guthrie Tackle

Not only to anglers love Guthrie Tackle, but UK footballers do too. This weekend Newcastle United's Danny Guthrie broke Hull City striker Craig Fagen's leg in a late game tackle. On the 16th, Guthrie Fishing Tackle began seeing a lot of web hits for "guthrie tackle," which, of course is great. Visitors were coming from all over Europe. Spain, Netherlands, Germany, Norway, UK, Iceland, etc... Guthrie Tackle owner Steve Sand was quoted as saying "WOW! We're huge in Europe!" Our own investigation yielded these startling headlines about Guthrie Tackle... Hull manager angered by Guthrie tackle - CNN.com and FIFA.com PFA boss slams Guthrie tackle and the most shocking Guthrie Tackle unacceptable.
But as the old saying goes... "Any news is good news." Also, a special thanks goes out to all those forum post that intentionally mislead all those looking for Guthrie's tackle - we especially enjoyed the Jaws sidetrack.

Hosted blog - easy to maintain
Well, I was going to build a blog into the Guthrie Fishing Tackle website. But, it is just plain easier to just use Blogger, Wordpress, etc... One of the big reasons is not having to update the app - or keep track of updates whenever they come out. "Let someone else do it!" This way I can just spit it out and link it back to our site.
